TIRZ No. 8 played a critical role in the full reimagination of Broadway Street leading to William P. Hobby Airport.

The project provided a much improved gateway that corresponded with both the improvements to Hobby Airport to accommodate international travel and the upcoming Super Bowl LI. The reinvestment zone pledged $1.5 million that resulted in more than $17 million in improvements along the corridor, including financial and in-kind support from the City of Houston, Houston Endowment, Houston First, Houston METRO, the National Football League, Trees for Houston, the Hobby Area District (maintenance) and numerous additional foundations and private donors.

Overseen by Scenic Houston, the improvements included full reconstruction of roadways and sidewalks, beautification of the landscaped median and preservation of the historic tree canopy, installation of new LED street lights and newly approved light poles, intersection enhancements, gateway signage, uniquely styled transit shelters, and collaboration with cell service providers for stylized design of new 5G towers.
