Houston Parks Board purchased the 1.84 acre parcel of land adjacent the Family Dollar on the NE corner of the MLK and Airport Boulevard intersection. In partnership with the Gulfgate Redevelopment Authority/ TIRZ 8, the parcel was developed into a prominent neighborhood park and trailhead for the Sim’s Bayou Greenway.

The park features a 10 foot wide concrete trail, a secondary loop trail around an active lawn for open play, wetland riparian detention basins, prairie and tree plantings, benches, picnic table, wayfinding and interpretive signage, and small parking lot with solar lights for safety. As part of expanding community access to the Sim’s Bayou Greenway, intersection improvements included 10 foot wide paver crosswalks, new pedestrian push button crossing beacons, and native tree and meadow plantings in the street medians for beautification. Maintenance of the park and intersection improvements is provided by the Houston Park Board as part of Bayou Greenways.

Funding for the project was provided by the Gulfgate Redevelopment Authority/ TIRZ 8. This project represents $1.7 million in community improvements.
